The romantically beautiful melodies of Michael Conway Baker, whose work has garnered numerous awards for film, TV and classical composition. This music is both enchanting and unique, as it marks the first time an orginal score was created for a large-scale ice skating production. Managing Director of the Sinfonia of London Peter Willison described the recording of the Cinderella score as "musically, one of the most enjoyable experiences Sinfonia has ever had"

Re-release of Cinderella Soundtrack CD

In October of 2004, all the rights in the music score and recording of Michael's most popular work "Cinderella: Frozen in Time" reverted to Michael. Up to that time, Sony had exclusive rights to the soundtrack. We have now released the score on our own label Music from Treetop Lane, available for internet purchase through indiepool.com and downloadable from puretracks.com as well as certain retail outlets across Canada and from our website. While the music was under license 50,000 CD and tapes were sold in North America, and people still contact us to see if they can replace their 'old' or damaged CDs and tapes.

This music in its original form was 90 minutes long for a two hour ice ballet starring Dorothy Hamill and commissioned by her Ice Capades company. The show toured with two companies for three years in North America and actually did one tour of China.

For television, Sony and ABC-TV condensed the show to fit a one hour time slot and added a narration by the late Lloyd Bridges. This show was released by Sony Wonder on Video and is still available through Amazon. The CD is a 60 minute version of excerpts from the original 90 minute score.

The recording sessions were at Abbey Road studios in London with the famous recording orchestra The Sinfonia of London. Michael's friend, BC conductor Bruce Rodney Dunn conducted the orchestra and Dorothy Hamill and her entourage were thrilled with the whole recording process.

Michael's wife and lyricist Penny did not travel to England with them, but has an anecdote to share -- "When I listened to the 'raw' footage of the recording - before edits - right off the floor - I was amazed to hear the incredibly talented and very professional musicians CHEERING and applauding at the conclusion of a 'take'.. "

Michael said that they were all sight-reading the scores and were mostly able to do a finished session on the first try! The orchestra is composed of largely the first and second chair performers of the major orchestras in London and their skills were quite overwhelming.

Michael's recording of "Through the Lions' Gate" (including The Mountains) was made at the same time as the Cinderella score with the same musicians, studio and engineer as there was a 'minimum' recording requirement with the British musicians union to record under the special 'buyout' contract.

"Dorothy Hamill says viewers should pay particular attention to the show's music. 'It's one of, if not THE star of the show' she says." Daily News, New York

"This music seemed to depict my feelings at this time, and lift my heart although parts of it were so romantic it hurt!....Proud to own this..." Ruth Summers Kaatz

"I was so utterly taken with this music that I immediately ordered a soundtrack. This is a CD I play over and over, and is quite possibly my favorite CD of all, in a fairly large collection."
Laura Erickson

"I found your composition of 'Frozen in Time' hauntingly with me for days after hearing it and am hopeful that I can secure the CD to furthur enjoy it." John Hibbs

"We also give special applause to the fantastic, swelling score of Michael Conway Baker" Lincoln Nebraska Star

"I just want to let you know that never before have I experienced such an intense emotional effect from hearing music." Allison Shaw

"...the few stolen moments with this wonderful score have been just HEAVEN!"
Cheryl Marty
